About Home Electrical

Home electrical systems refer to the network of wiring, outlets, switches, and electrical devices that power and control a household’s electrical needs. This includes lighting, heating, cooling, and appliances, as well as home entertainment and smart technology systems. The electrical system typically connects to the main power grid, delivering electricity via circuit breakers or fuses that prevent overloads. A properly installed and maintained home electrical system ensures safety, energy efficiency, and reliability. Electrical work, such as installations, upgrades, or repairs, should be performed by licensed electricians to comply with safety regulations and prevent hazards like electrical fires or shock.

The team at Level Electrical and Solar were a pleasure to deal with from start to finish installing Solar at my property.
Despite the weather conditions the team managed to complete the job at hand. The installers were courteous and happy to answer any queries. The contact from administration was also appreciated with a follow up phone call.
I have no hesitation in recommending Level Electrical and Solar.

We were left in the lurch by another electrician who had clearly taken on a job that too big and beyond his expertise. Fortunately we were lucky enough to find Dave and his team at Level Electrical. After a site visit and an in depth discussion about our electrical and Solar needs they pulled out all stops to meet our builders timeline. Ensured our solar was significant for our use! Excellent service, excellent quality, competitively priced. Cannot recommend enough to use these guys you won’t regret it !!

We had Level Electrical install a large 20Kw solar system on our roof about two months ago. Nic was incredibly helpful and honest as he quoted and taught us our options, and the team on the installation day were professional, clean and efficient. Our solar system is working like a dream and we're throwing extra power back in to the grid too. Nic also went out of his was to analyse our needs and help us future proof our power usage with some extra care and thought that we couldn't find elsewhere. Getting solar is stressful as there is so many companies all promising to be the best, but I would highly recommend Level to anyone interested in solar. You won't regret it!

I found these guys in hipages, they contacted me straight away. I told them that I wanted to put in an air conditioner for warmth and that I am a pensioner so don’t have a lot to spend. They were fantastic and booked me in on my pay day so I could pay them a deposit with a payment plan in place. They were here on the time they stated and worked hard at it, explaining the process all the way even though I really didn’t understand the process they came back and made the changes to the pipes that I asked and put a pump in place for me. They were very polite and explained the cleaning process to me. I couldn’t be happier, the house is nice and warm and I know it will be cool in summer!

Frequently Asked Questions

Regular maintenance and inspections are key to preventing electrical problems. Ensure your electrical system is up to date, and avoid overloading outlets. Use surge protectors for sensitive electronics and have an electrician check your wiring periodically, especially in older homes.

If you experience an electrical emergency, such as sparks, smoke, or a blown fuse, turn off the power at the main breaker and call a licensed electrician immediately. It’s important not to attempt repairs yourself, as this can be dangerous.

Look for a licensed and insured electrician with experience in residential electrical work. You can also check reviews or ask for recommendations from friends and family. It's important to choose someone who provides clear pricing and guarantees the work they perform.

The cost of hiring an electrician depends on the type of work being performed, the complexity of the job, and the region you're in. Electricians typically charge an hourly rate or a flat fee for specific services. It’s a good idea to get a written estimate before the work begins.

Home electricians offer a wide range of services, including electrical installations, repairs, wiring upgrades, circuit breaker maintenance, outlet and switch installation, lighting design, and troubleshooting electrical issues. They can also handle specialized tasks like installing smart home systems and home theater wiring.

You may need an electrician if you experience frequent power outages, flickering lights, tripped circuit breakers, or if you notice burning smells or sparks from outlets. Additionally, if you're renovating or adding new electrical appliances, it's important to have a professional assess your home's wiring.

Electrical work can be dangerous if you're not properly trained. It’s best to hire a licensed electrician to ensure the job is done safely, up to code, and without the risk of injury or causing further damage.

Qualifications

Qualified electricians are equipped with the right education, experience, and knowledge to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant electrical work. Whether installing new systems or making repairs, hiring a certified and licensed professional helps protect both your home and your investment.

  1. Licensing
Most regions require electricians to be licensed to ensure that they have met specific standards and regulations for electrical work. Obtaining a license typically involves completing a training program and passing an exam that covers safety, electrical theory, and code requirements.

  2. Formal Education
Electricians often start their careers by enrolling in an accredited electrical trade school or community college program. These programs teach fundamental electrical concepts, wiring, circuits, and safety procedures. Some programs may offer certificates, diplomas, or associate degrees.
  3. Apprenticeship
After formal education, aspiring electricians typically complete an apprenticeship, which lasts 3 to 5 years. Apprenticeships involve working under the supervision of a licensed professional to gain hands-on experience, while continuing some classroom instruction. This practical training is essential for mastering the craft.

  4. Experience
On-the-job experience is crucial for electricians to develop proficiency. This experience allows them to work on different electrical systems, including residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Through this exposure, electricians learn how to troubleshoot and solve real-world electrical problems.

  5. Certification
Some electricians seek additional certifications to specialize in specific areas, such as renewable energy systems, smart home technologies, or low-voltage wiring. While certification isn't always required, it can highlight expertise in specialized fields and provide added credibility.

  6. Insurance and Bonding
Professional electricians are usually insured and bonded, which protects homeowners in case of accidents or mistakes during the job. This is an important qualification, ensuring both the safety of the homeowner and the integrity of the work performed.

  7. Knowledge of Electrical Codes
Electricians must have a solid understanding of local and national electrical codes, which outline safety standards and legal requirements for electrical installations. These codes are updated regularly, so electricians must stay informed to ensure compliance with the latest standards.
